I posted this question on several different sites. I wanted to try and
get as many new loads as possible. I also wanted to compare the answers.
I posted the links so you could see the various responses.
I thought it would be easier to share like this.
Some of the people were quite helpful.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have now loaded my 30-30 with unique,blue dot,red dot and 2400.
I want more loads using pistol powder. I would like some using 700x,800x or PB.
Bullet weights would be 100-180 gr cast lead OR jacketed.
If you have some please share them. I have the Trail Boss data already.
Thank you so much.Jim

7 grains of Bullseye with a 311291 cast GC shoots VERY well in my Savage 219. A guess on velocity would be 1,400 fps.

Have you ever noticed how helpful the cast bullet people are? Whether they spell it bullets or boolets. Thanks.

txpete, how many shots and at what distance. Rifle, or pistol, barrel length, irons or scope. Nice group!

With a RCBS 30-180-FN or a Lyman 311041, I use 19 grains of IMR-4227. Remington cases and Remington 9 1/2 primers.

75 meters in a 23" t/c carbine leupold 2x7.it also does very well in my old beater win 94 with a williams 5D reciever sight.
bullets were sized .309 and lee tl used.this was the first time out with the t/c and it is a 10 rd group.

25 gr IMR4895 311291 2.4" OAL, too long to feed.
Load single shot.
Use the lever to force bullet into the throat.
Great groups at 100 yards.

I hope you get better soon. I hope you don't mind me saying a prayer for you. That sure is some nice shootin' in that picture.

TXPETE, I couldn't get a group like that without the muzzle blast destroying the target. I would also get secondary holes from unburned powder. I'm not as steady as in the 60s. Even then, it was a strain for me. Oh ya, nice group.

I'm using 3 cast boolits here, the Lee C309-150FP, Lyman 311041 and the RD TL165 FP. All 3 shoot great with 21.5 grs RL-7 giving 1750-1800fps. Also using 28 grs of Surp AA2520 with the Lyman 311041 and RD 165 FP gives 1900+fps and good accuracy in several rifles in 30/30 cal. I have WC 844 and WC846 on order and will be working up loads with them as soon as I get it.

I saw a website a while back that had maximum accuracy WC 844 and WC 846 loads for the 30-30. I thought I had saved it, but I cant find it anywhere. I have tried every combination of search terms I can think of, and still no luck. They had some fine tight groups with that powder. I remember some of the groups were well under an inch at fifty yards. Some were under one inch at 100 yards. All the powder used was surplus. If anybody comes across this site please post a link.

Have just been doing a bunch of shooting with 8 gr. RedDot & the Saeco #322 along with the Wilbird 314-120 RF Group Buy. Very easy on the wallet. No gas checks. Real accurate even out to 100 yds.

One of the great Sahibs in this group gave me this absolutely killer load. :
30.5 gr. H-335 & the Lyman 311041. I have also used the group buy 311407 with the same great results.

You have to try IMR 30-31 It's not a pistol powder but it shoots great! with 180 gr lead boolits. I use 26.5 grs under a 180 GC and it's deadly.

I'll also recommend the use of IMR 3031 powder. I've never used any of the pistol powders as I was taught that higher loading densities generally gave better results, but that I guess was an older idea from once upon a once. I have been loading an older single cavity Lyman mold # 311291 which with WW metal weighs around 170 grains. Its a round nose that some folks don't like to use in a tubular mag,(I've never had a problem) so the alternative choice is lyman #311041 (also around 170 grains) which has a flat point. I started with 25 grains and worked up as high as 30 grains of powder. I found that 27 grains gave me the best grouping (around 3 inches) at 100 yards out of two 94's off the bench....a rifle and a SRC. A speedy recovery to you and good shooting. LLS

I used to use IMR3031 with J-word 150 gr. bullets. It is great stuff! I used 30.5 grains.

28.5 grains 2520 with a 175 grain cast 311041 is another good one.

anyone have some good 'economy' plinker loads that a person can shoot without GC and with a modest amount of powder? thx

Yeah Russ,

I use the Saeco Plainbase made for the .32-20 and a group buy number from one of this group's group buys. Use anywhere between 7.5 to 8.5 grains of Red Dot. These are both 122-125 grain boolits.

I have even used a Lyman 311252 77 grain Plainbase with 7.5 grs of Unique. The small boolit holds up out to 50 yds.

The 120 ish grainers hold up to a full 100 yds.

Saeco makes a 140gr PB boolit and RCBS makes a 150gr PB.
I've the saeco 140gr. Just put 8 to 10 gr of Unique under it. 1,400 to 1,600fps.
Other pistol powders will work too. The Lyman book has a chart full.
That may be a plinker but it's still 357 mag energy level.
