What makes these rivets so expensive? By the time shipping is added they run from $6 to $9, each. I guess if they are something special then so be it but the one I took out sure didn't seem to be. This is for an older model with the fixed nose rather than the later ones that pivot. Why can't one just use a piece of steel rod the proper diameter and make a rivet?

Just be sure the steel you use for the pin is not too hard or too soft. Either could cause serious problems.
If the pin isn't secure it may back out preventing firing. If brittle it could break if soft it could shear.

Best to use only OEM if available at all.

Buy at least one extra rivet, see if you need any other small parts to offset the shipping.

If you get 2 you know you'll never need the second one!

0711900000 J frame or 057700000 for K and N frame are $1.52 and $1.32 ea. from Smith & Wesson. Shipping is whatever shipping is.
