The guy at the local scrap yard, said he had a 30 gal barrel of small pieces of lead mixed with tin and a small amount of tungsten. Can this be cast in to bullets or used to harden pure lead. He said it came from a bullet making place, and wants $3.00 a pound does this sound right?

Ok, can you use it with tungsten in it? What would be a good price?

I wouldn't, and I pay 35 cents a pound for scrap lead.

A bullet making place could mean a lot of things from Cores for jacketed bullets to a cast or swaged bullet. Or a shot for shotguns Tungsten is very hard and it seems would be hard on barrels to an extent. Another thing to consider is if a "bullet making place" is scraping it why?

$.25-.35 for WW's per lb. and no more than $1 for lead sheet and Pipe that is CLEAN.

I agree that he is asking too much for less than ideal lead. james

Tungsten carbide has a high melting point at 2,870 °C (5,200 °F).

tungsten and tin are used in making non toxic shot.
iron and tungsten, tin iron nickel tungsten, tungsten polymer, and probably 1-2 others are popular.
if you tried melting it all together I think you'd end up with a bunch of bad unknown alloy and probably a ton of tungsten mixed in with a bunch of oxides to try and get rid of.

I agree wicked, are the different metals all in separate pieces or is it already alloyed? I have to pay 1$/lb here for scrap lead such as pipe, sheet, plumbers lead, but I count myself lucky I can still get it, I worry all the time about it drying up
