I would like to post a reloading question for j-words, a hunting load for Hogs in 30-06. Where in this great forum should I do that? I ruled out "Hunting with CB's" and "CB Loads," for obvious reasons. I know the vast amount of knowledge our members possess and I would like to get some guidance from their experience (even if it is not for CB's). By the way, I am in the early steps of putting together a hunting load with 311041 and H4895 with filler in 30-06 for Hogs, but I do not want to rush as I have a steeper learning curve with casting and powder coating. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

we're pretty easy going here, in regards to a question like that.
If I were going to ask about J-words loads for 30-06, I'd probably post in Factory rifles or canister powders or even special projects...depending on the direction of your question...and there is always Off-topic in the PIT.

Thank you JonB. I think I will post it in Factory Rifles and see where it goes. I am hunting hogs over bait in Texas, and my shots will be 80 yards or less due to heavy cover. My thinking is that I need to slow the projectile down so it does not blow up on impact. My rifle is a surprisingly accurate Ruger 77 (red buttpad and tang safety) that fits like a glove. I think either 150 or 165 grains Hornady Interlock, Speer HotCor, or Sierra Pro Hunter at 2000 - 2500 fps should do the trick. I am leaning more towards the 165's. Powders to try are, in order of consideration: H4895, Big Game, 5744, open to other recommendations. I intend to wait until I am presented with neck shots. The toughest challenge is hunting at night with a red light. I have a clear Nikon Monarch scope, however everything is different in the dark...

Here is where I posted my questions in Factory Rifles section:

Thank you.

either the 150 or the 165 interlock will do what you want.
46grs of the 4895 will put you in the 2500 range and is easy to handle.
the wife shoots 46.5grs of the IMR type under a 150 in her 0-6 and will shoot 100 rounds off the bench in an afternoon.
more if I don't stop her. [surprised her rifle has any rifling left in it sometimes]

under the 041 try 28.5grs [4895] with a filler for about 1900 fps.

We had great results loading 180 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips to 2500 fps in .30-'06. Sorry, I don't recall for sure but the powder might have been 4350. In a modern BAR the recoil wasn't bad allowing for follow up shots on multiple pigs. The heavy BT opened up well and was kind of a sledge hammer round. Function in the Browning was flawless.
