I am looking at this thing advertised as a reloading tool. I am in need of making a roll crimping tool for 22lr. There is a picture of one in the book "Ammunition Making" by George Frost. This is different but may be modified to work. Any help is appreciated. I would like to buy it but it is a 4 hour drive to get it.

On second look, this looks nothing like a roll crimper. But I have no idea what it is.

The punch and die lead me to believe that it is a swager.

The die says 30 06 on it (hard to see).

C'mon, somebody has to be able to help me identify this. I have been looking at for a while, trying to find something on Google. I think that LUBEDUDE is correct. It is some kind of swager. Looks like someone made it in their machine shop. The handle looks worn, like it has had lots of use. The die sitting on the bottom says 30-06. And the punch looks like it has an ogive for forming the brass jacket? I would like to get it but not going to drive 240 miles to pick it up unless it is darn near a treasure. He won't ship it.

Well, if I didn't know for sure what a tool is, what it's used for, or how to use it, and nobody on a well informed forum know either, I certainly wouldn't drive 240 miles to get it (even if it's free)...

And he doesn't even know for sure what it is. I'd let him keep it.

+1, this sounds like the blind leading the blind kind of deal....

You guys are no fun at all! No sense of adventure? No curiosity? It is obviously something for making ammunition. It obviously squeezes something very hard as in swage. It obviously was a successful build because the handle shows lots of wear. And I WAAAANT it Whaaaaa.

Looks like it might some type of roll sizer for 30\06 cases. from the looks of the torx style bolt don't think it's too old.

The "30-06" throws me. Otherwise I agree with it being a swager. It looks like enormous force could be developed and the die lead and punch do look like a j-type swaging press.

He wants $25 for that and some dies. Looks like the wife and I are going on a road trip this week.

I like the sight dovetail in the handle.

I saw that dovetail and wondered if somewhere, there's a octagonal barreled snubnose.

OK Folks I bought it.
He agreed to ship. $40 total with a 223 factory crimp die.
It is indeed home made. It came with two dies 300 Savege and 30-06.
I tried squeezing a used 30-06 case in the die. Even with the screw handle 18 inches long, I couldn't get it all the way in. Heck of a job getting the case out. Looks like it necked it down to a slightly smaller bore. (havent measured it yet.) It is cumbersome to size cases with it. I may be able to modify it to use to swage 9mm boolits into hollow based bullets, even with harder lead.

The dies look like Lyman FL hand sizing dies ?? I would say it is a home made press for using them and then then a place to knock the case out on top using the punch. Interesting !!

I looked up some Lyman Hand sizing dies on eBay and you are correct. They look exactly like that. These are 1" in diameter. Is that what the Lyman hand sizing dies are? I am going to measure the "sized" case that the 30-06 die sizes. It sure looks like that die takes it down a good bit. Looks like the neck is down to about 28 cal. But why would a die that says 30-06 size something down to a smaller caliber? Wouldn't that be stamped on the die?
