How are rossi barrel fixed in?

The 22 is offset. Problem you will find is trying to fit something else. I did a barrel stub like on a H&R w a 22lr Rossi barrel. Drilling it to a size where the stub walls were not to thin, you end up with an oblong hole, a sliver of metal on one side. Drilling it bigger was not going to work. A bit difficult to thread the way it was. The barrel stub is still in my drawer, short of filling it with epoxy, didn't see a way it would work well. A 410/22 action will restrict you on pressure.

Well Rossi sells different frames. H&R had the shotgun vs rifles frames, but same size. Rossi does have a youth or whatever they call it 410/22 thats much smaller than the other frames. The one I have no way a 20ga or other barrel would fit on it.

I heated it up just short of cherry red and adhesive started melting and flowing out of the barrel/breech joint.

Sounds like a good way to ruin the breech. Red heat will soften it so it is no stronger than mild steel. Not having seen one of these, I would no longer trust it. If the breech you mention is a fabricated monoblock, then the softened part may not be dangerous but will wear quicker than it should.
