I crimp all my revolver boolits but since I tumble lube, I do lube the crimp groove. It may make a bit more smoke when shot but should not hurt anything.

Occasionally but I always readjust as it makes a mess. Most loads I shoot are more accurate with as little lube as needed, extra is an accuracy deterrent.

I lube the crimp groove of the Lee 358-125-RF for use in my Marlin 1894. The extra lube helps with the longer barrel, besides it is so deep and pronounced it may as well be a lube groove. I would love to have this same design minus the crimp groove, would be a dandy 9mm and .38 Super boolit.

I have to say that I don't lube crimp grooves. Ed Harris wrote about this years ago The Rifleman and he said that was best manner of lubing for accuracy 38 Wadcutters. I have not run tests myself to confirm this, but for years I loaded my H&G 50 148 WC"s lubed in the bottom groove only.
Now I might consider it in a rifle, especially if it were a longer barrel and I was experiencing leading near the muzzle. But what I do there is to lube the lube grooves with Ben'S Red, then tumble lube with Recluse 45/45/10 or Ben's Liq lube. Gives good accuracy and allows for higher velocities without leading.

The only time I ever lubed the crimp groove on a rifle bullet was when I wasn't getting a "star" shape on the muzzle of the bbl from the lube. That lack of the star told me I either needed to change lubes or add more. Seeing how the only place left to lube the bullets were in the grimp groove. It got filled with lube.

I let the muzzle of the bbl be my guide.

Actually I have done it when using the little Lee 105 grain SWC in 9 mm loads . I taper crimp them on the top band so it doesn't matter if the crimp groove get filled.
If roll crimping for revolver I keep the crimp groove un-lubed.
