I am looking for reduced load data for 22 jet. My dad picked up a S&W model 53 and has given up on finding the 22lr inserts for it. I would like to find some low velocity loads.

Thank you

I have an old Lyman manual that shows data for the .22 Remington Jet using the 225107 (nominally 37 grains) and the 225438 (nominally 45 grains) and loads start at 2.0 grains of Bullseye or 3.5 grains of Unique which puts you in the 1100-1200 FPS range. This was shot in a S&W Model 53 with a 6" barrel. It has data for 2400, SR4756 and IMR4227 too, but those all start at a lot higher velocities.

The 2 grains of Bullseye with a 45 grain plain based bullet is a nice, accurate load in .22 Hornet. That's where I'd start if I were you. I'd try to find a plain based mold, no need for a gas check at those velocities.

Just a quick look on gunbroker revealed a surprising number of those Model 53s, I had always thought they were pretty obscure. Always seemed to be an odd thing to chamber in a revolver, but would be a neat rifle round.

I'd be interested in seeing some results of loading and shooting of the Jet posted.

FWIW, someone mentioned in a recent thread on the Hornet that Armscor 40 grain bullets designed for the .22 TCM are both good and cheap. I cast for my Hornets and .222, so not for me, but had I known that before I started, I might not cast for them.

An old indoor favourite of mine was a 22 pellet and just a primer.

You recon Trail Boss would do any good with this?

I've only played with a few different cartridges but the average velocity reduction was more than 50%.

Im pretty sure you could find a USA based machinist on here who could turn up some of the Jet inserts and run a chambering reamer into them for 22 Lr.
