View Full Version : Need real reviews on the Lyman Mag 25

It's time to stop thinking about it, and time to get to casting.
I don't really want a Lee pot, not that I have anything against Lee. And the RCBS is out of my price range.
The added cost of building a PID for the Lee makes the Lyman just a little more and "fancy" looking.
So really looking for real world owners and users of the Lyman Mag 25 to give their review. Not some paid for good reviews.
This will be my first and I hope last furnace.
Thanks

I got one last year and like it. I haven't put a lot of time in with it but the few times I have used it I've been pleased. About the only complaint I have is that the spring seems very tight on the rod, or the rod itself it tight and not as responsive as I would like. As I said I don't have a lot of time in front of it and the problems might go away after more break in or it could be me not being used to it. I'd buy another one though if I was in the market for one.

I got one about a year ago and the only problem is the almost useless mold guide. I modified it so it to fit my molds and now am happy with it.

Just got one last fall and only have 500 or so bullets cast from it. Only complaint so far is the mold guide doesn't fit my Noe mold, but then I knew that going in.

Been using mine for over 1 year, works great and holds the temp very close!
Only complaint is the Mold Guide, useless for Lee six cavity molds.

I have had mine for over a year, have cast about 20,000 with it. It holds temp great. If you hold and pull your mold at an angle across the top of the mold guide, it works fine. I put a small LED light under the spout to give more light when casting.

I didn't mention the mold guide but should have. It fits RCBS & Lyman molds just great but any of my others is a no-go. I took it off and turned it up side down and it works pretty well that way.

I love mine, this after going from a 10lb Lee to a 20lb Lee now the Mag25 over the last almost 30 years. The only thing I don't like is the mold guide, but it us usable.

I love mine, it keeps the temperature constant, and I have gotten used to the mold guide, I have learned to adapt. Good investment. Any other questions, let me know.

I know I’m bringing back up a old post but I’m in the market for the Mag25 and am on the fence because of the few bad reviews I’ve seen. The new promelt seems like it’s never going to happen.

Would be interested after more time if the mag 25 is still desirable

I have a Lyman Mag 25, fairly new. So far so good. Seems to regulate and heat well. Dispenses well. Haven't used it a lot yet.

I've had mine is service for a year or so.It works fine.I like the mold guide.I use Ideal,Lyman, and RCBS molds including Ideal and Lyman hollow point molds so that type of mold guide is necessary.

Had one for a little over a year, ran several pot loads through it. The mold guide is the only drawback I've found with mine, it doesn't fit my Accurate or NOE molds. Like someone above, I just lower it and set the mold on the angle across the top of the guide. My biggest problem is that I went all in when I got it and ran off so many bullets of each mold I use that I don't need to cast any more for awhile. Been thinking about a new gun and mold so I'll have something to cast for.

I like mine except the guide does suck. I mounted a flat piece of aluminum with a slot cut in it for drainage. All moulds now fit.

Well I guess that answers my question about a new furnace. Even with the old trick of turning the mould guide upside down.

I wouldn't buy it.

The only downside I’ve read is the mold guide..not a deal breaker for me, I’d just replace it with the Noe guide

Buy the Lee 4-20 if you can't deal with the Lyman mold guide. They're inexpensive and they do work.
