I bought this from a family a while back and just finally got around to getting it up and running. The bore is pretty beat up and from what I was told by the family this rifle was never shot after returning home with uncle Paul.

First lets meet Paul

Next the bore.... this is done with a 14$ bore scope off amazon. Its not very good and I did my best

First the bore after a deep cleaning after sitting for 70 years or so

The ammo used 314299 200 grain COWW water dropped, gas checked 2500 lube. Cases are made from 77 HXP M2 ball. 16 grains of 2400

The target: I found the rear sight needed to be flipped up and set on "3" to hit the black with a 6 oclock hold. that pointy sight is tough to stay focused on ( I was able to shoot PPU 150 grain soft points with the sight down or "battle sight" which shot POA/POI at 100 yards and will hold the SR1 black) 50 yards not to shabby for starters. For this I used a a vintage 1958 25 yard rapid fire pistol target set at 50 yards.

Then the bore again after a dry patch ran through it. I was expecting much more leading

Im still pleased with the outcome with this rifle. shows you a rough bore can still shoot pretty good. I would imagine with some more shooting the bore will "smooth out" a bit.

I will be testing the other rifles also.... one of them will be used in a up coming CMP vintage match.

Thank you Paul and Family

Found the picture of the first 7 shots through it last summer with the ppu last 5 shots holding center bull hit the black. first 2 shots are center low 7/8 ring

Very nice. Love a gun with history. I just picked up a Type 99 and can't wait to shoot it. Just waiting on a set of dies I ordered.

Fair warning might be a while. I will post bore shots of the other rifles soon though.

My friend has one of those. He bought it with his paper route money as a kid and had a coat hanger in it for decades. His bore looks like yours. He considered it a wall hanger only until I brow beat him into trying a box of ammo. For a last ditch gun of very crude manufacture, it shot like a-house-a-fire. Might try and get him to fire lap it to improve some rough spots.

I most likely wont bother with these rifes but I have improved other bores by mashing fine lapping compound onto cast bullets..

Rife #2
I think this is a series 10 or 20 the mark is not very clear to me. bore is better than rifle #1 needs a good cleaning before the cast load test.

Rifle #3
bore appears to be the best of the bunch.... I have shot FMJ reduced loads through this rifle but honestly for got how it did. Last time I had these 2 out I only put 5 rounds each.
