So I didn't get a mould from a preferred maker but I did get a mould for a bullet that a Marlin 1895 likes so that makes it ok that it is brand new Lyman .

Having a handful of Lyman moulds this is the first brand new Lyman mould , had it not been a Midway clearance and several other items I've been wanting it wouldn't have made the cut . I have an edge in that if it doesn't make size I can just size it for the Colts or ACP and roll it in paper and I and the rifle will be just as happy .

A couple of observations out of the Midway box .
The inspector has his name on a tag in the box with a date of manufacture . The mould has a alphanumeric code on it , the mould number and the block numbers and a month/year date . No more guessing vintage . Let's hope that on 11/14/16 Jorge was on top of his game .

Off to the bench to pour a few hot ones .

2 hours later .......

After a lengthy warm up on a new hot plate with a cast iron kettle plate on it took 10 pours to clean up the nose wrinkles and the new mould base bubbles . It poured with no special needs to swirl , pressure pour or large sprue puddles . Total adjustment was 1/6th of a turn looser on the sprue screw and the lock screw . A touch of NOE branded lube on pins , the sprue hinge and a smear on the sprue plate face/block surface . Mid set I touched the sprue screw again and during a cool down moment the handle screws as well .
An ah ha moment came as I noticed that the pot was dropping pretty fast .......Duh ! 17 to the pound , 6# per 100 .

Finished cast looks , today , like .4592-3 x .4598 +- .0002 . I'm pouring my rifle soft alloy 75/25 WW/1-20 at 725 because I can't seem to inspire the Lee 4-20 to stay cooler than that and water cooled . Bullets weigh 414.7+.3 - .6 from a random 10 bullet sample . That makes me feel pretty good about my technique . The pouring was done with an RCBS ladle and Lee commercial handles . The bullets ran from half shiny to full body frost .

For the rifle in question .462 would be ideal for the fired case but at a strong .451 by a weak .458 with a proper .459 throat and a combined lead length to bore dia of .3 these should do the job nicely .

Can't the pictures out of my phone ........
