Homemade brass powder trickler

as time goes by, ive been asking my dad to make me things that we need to use for reloading. little things like a bearing platform for my 6 cavity molds, spotting scope stand ect. and ive been doing this cause " sadly " i know one day he wont be here. id rather use things he/we used rather then store bought products...

so this morning, while visiting, i was grabbing some scrap stuff and trying to make up a few pieces to make up a powder trickler.

my father, BLESS HIS HEART, grabbed these 2 brass bearing/bushing spacers weve used since the go-kart racing days and said " ill make this work "


so during this week, hell be machining these couple pieces to make a 7 lb powder trickler......

This is a true compliment, you should see some of the stuff he has made! That trickler is a thing of beauty!

dad is going to mill the bottom shaft ( 20 year old bearing driver, that was a hydraulic piston reject in its first life ) so that it sits down 1-1/4 inches...

light powder bounces out of my tray............................................

Ain't nothing wrong with the weight, I added lead shot to my trickler but it still is not heavy enough.

that aluminum shaft is a 40 cal blowgun i used as a kid.... lots of memories were placed into this simple task of trickling powder into a tray!!!!!!!!!!

Did you remember to put a length of small stretched spring in the tube to move the powder forward? I ask because I forgot it when I made my first one and it was slow on the powder. Corrected that though. james

I like the workmanship on that tool. I think I was dazzled by its looks because I did not notice until now that the powder tube was slanted. Your trickler is a much better looking than mine. PVC is easy to use but not much on looks. Brass really looks much nicer and more durable in the long run. My trickler is long gone, it was too light. If I ever make another one out of PVC is will use a bigger pipe for the bottom and fill it with lead shot. james
