I'm not sure if I posted in the correct place feel free to move it if needed. I'm looking for some 7.62x54r brass and was wondering where is the best place to buy it. I know midway carry's Lapua and Norma but I really don't want to spend 100.00 or more for 100 brass. Any suggestions would be welcome.

It's out of stock now but here's this https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/73074
at $1 a case you'd end out way ahead to buy ppu factory loads as a brass source.

I look for once fired myself. But I have several boxes of factory PPU and Winchester to fire and reload them. I have two Mosin's so it's a matter of time.

I keep the good brass berdan and then you convert to boxer - see Larry Gibson's instructions or look on youtube.

OptimusPanda nailed it, and that is exactly what I did. Although prices have risen since I bought mine. I believe it is still your best option. I am currently sitting on 200 rounds of PPU Match ammo in 7.62x54r.

If you look at it as half the purchase price being paying for the brass. The loaded rounds become much more affordable IMO.

Powder Valley has Privi Partisan (PPU)brass for $21.64 for 50. I use this brass and like it very much, it is very high quality. www.powdervalleyinc.com

I bought my last PPU off Midway. I bought some loaded S&B for the brass, but a rifle primer wont fit in it.

Thanks everyone for the information, I got brass ordered. Now what mold is everyone using in the Mosin 91/30?

314299 would be a good place to start if you have a typical Soviet barrel with a large groove diameter.

It sounds like a bore slugging and/ or chamber pound cast is in order.

I use the NOE 196gr and the Lyman 200gr in mine.

I bought my last PPU off Midway. I bought some loaded S&B for the brass, but a rifle primer wont fit in it. I haven't gotten any S&B but you know it's Czechoslovakian ammo so it's probably made to Berdan dimensions. If the primer pocket is to big, get a length of 1/4 inch thin wall copper tubing. Slip the end of the tubing into the primer pocket and cut it off close to the case head with a dremel, then gently grind the tubing down to flush with the case head. use a primer pocket swager on the revised primer pocket. A Boxer LRP will fit into the revised pocket. If you are unsure put in a drop of blue locktite or super glue. They will both break free with normal pressure in a decapping die. I did this with some spent primers in steel cases just to see if it would work. I still have the decapped steel cases.

As for molds, I bought the Lee C312-185-1R for my Russian Mosin's. Haven't dropped any yet so I can't report on that yet.

Looks like they have once fired Winchester brass for 50¢ each.
