Why do you need a forming die? We made 300 savage by running 30-06 or 308 into the 300 savage FL die and depending on the brass you may have to inside or outside neck ream. We had good luck making them out of LC 06 brass.

If you need a set of 300 savage dies to borrow I think someone here will be able to help out ( I may be able to help next week when I pick up a set with other stuff I bought).

you are right, I discovered last night. The problem is the heck is too thick, wall thickness is about .016", factory brass is around .010" I'm going to look into neck turning tools. I need them any way for another project.

I have 300 Savage brass for sale, both new and used.

You could save the forming step...........

neck why don't see what works in the chamber. I would go by chamber dimensions, NOT factory brass dimensions.

Just my opinion of course.

Most of the 300 Savage I have sized down I ended up neck turning. My rifle was a Jap 7.7 rebarreled with a minimum chamber. The fellow who had it sold it to me because it wouldn';t shoot cast. After I neck turned the cases the groups shrunk right up and it was a real shooter.

I think 90% or more of my 300 Sav cases say 308 win on the head stamp. I have found that in my 99, if I use winchester brass I dont have to neck turn them, just trim them a bit. I have a friend that has an old remington, don't remember the model right now, but he doesn't even have to trim the neck, just runs 308's through the 300 sav dies and he is ready to shoot. You would be surprised at how well it shoots cast boolits with that long neck. Looks silly, but works well.

Best wishes from the Boer Ranch,

Joe

Got a hold of a forster neck turning attachment and with some lathe work and a pair of vise grips I have a dandy neck turning tool. Took .020" diametrically off the necks and they chamber just fine.
