View Full Version : Yellow Bullseye Can

Picked up a yellow 8oz rectangular can of Bullseye, from a reloader's estate.

It's about the same size as a hip flask. The paper label says Hercules, but the logo looks similar to the old Laflin & Rand Powder Company "wreath" style logo.

Despite the rust on the outside of the can (was stored in an outdoor shed) the inside was clean, and rust free. It was also full. The Bullseye powder inside still looks and smells good. Shoots good too.

​would not work for me, they don't list 357 mag. guess I can only use the newer stuff.

That's awesome having so many suggested loads on the can's label...I wish they'd do that again.

Thats a good find. I thought a couple of mine were old but they look modern compared to that one

I am actually using the recommended load for the 7 63 mauser (broomhandle) and 41 Long Colt. I have a yellow can a friend gave me but it is of about 1940 vintage and was unopened. It was fresh and I am using it up in the 41 long Colt as this is written.

That's awesome having so many suggested loads on the can's label...I wish they'd do that again. Agree ... the back of the can with data is now in my computer under Reloading Data! :drinks:

QUESTION PLEASE! I have some old powder that looks like Bullseye - except- each individual flake has a small hole in the center. Like flat little donuts. Does this powder have perforations?

The Bullseye powder inside my yellow can does not have any holes or perforations in the center of the powder flakes.

Looks the same as modern Alliant Bullseye powder to me.

How long powder lasts depends in large measure on how it is stored. I have a can of the original 4831 as sold by Hogdon in his beginning powder business. I load a cartridge or two(30-06) every once in a while to see how it is keeping and I see no difference in it--up to this point. Store in a cool, dry place and keep light away from it as much as possible and it will last a long, long time. my experience anyway.
