Assume a 450gr .45-70. Velocity will likely never be pushed past 1700 (modern gun).

Would you mess with Checks or go flat base?

A PB will work if the boolit is cast a little harder. With the price of checks I am no longer making my molds for them---it REALLY sucks.
I have had 30 to 1 alloy to 1300 fps in the 45-70 with PB boolits with no problems but black powder will not go faster. I can't see another 400 fps any worse but 20 to 1 or WW's might be better.
