Bought some sheet lead and pipe at my local scrap yard. I know how the pipe cleans up. Any suggestions for the sheet lead? It looks like it has been glued to drywall,it's still has paper glued to it.

It burns off and floats like other contaminants.
I accidentally removed some by the pile getting wet on the garage floor. It just peeled off. A hot sunny day will dry it afterward.

Thanks for the reply. That's good to hear about cleaning up. I like the pure PB I cast for my MZ.

Get ready, nothing smells quite as bad as melting that stuff down. End result is really nice looking though.

I like the Xray shielding lead. It provides its own flux with that paper on the back. :-) Nice pure soft lead too.

Like the others have said, it will smoke and stink. Sometimes you can light the smoke and get it to burn. The lead cleans up nicely.

I'll have to give it a try. It will have to be a day when the wife's not home I do my smelting in the garage. Haha The scrap yard has a lot of it.

Once I got several broken sheets of lead lined drywall from a scrap yard. After getting as much as possible of the drywall and paper off the lead I cut it up to smelt. Definately do this outdoors! Best advice is to be up wind when it is melting and the paper/adhesive is burning off. The lead is very nice quality, just a bit labor intensive.Robert

I wonder how a pressure washer would work to remove the drywall and glue? Followed by thorough drying, of course.

Several local medical offices moved to new quarters recently. I drive by the old building once in a while hoping the see some sign of renovation but nothing so far.
