After a week of single digit mornings and 30 inches of white stuff it finally got into the high 30s which meant the new 56 barrel was getting dirty . Sure it was raining but the good news was the snow was shrinking ,shot till almost dark but fog / smoke kept me shooting poorly (that"s my story),but my 1st attempt shooting a patched ball .550/mink lubed linen
patch .009 didn"t turn out to bad . Brought 3F forgot the flask of 2F and at 75gr and ended up best at 90gr ,however
I noticed starting at 85 gr groups were improving but fliers were starting and going to target I was seeing blown patching so
I started putting 4 wads 1/8 inch behind the patched ball and fliers went away .My final target 9 out of 11 were decent for me @ 51yds ranged .Next time will be bird shot as I already have a few good round ball shooters 45/50/54 cal and I need a new squirrel killer .191755191756191757191758

I had one of those, amd got great accuracy with 60 ffG, a .535 ball, and patches cut from an old pair of jeans (.035 as I recall). I used a Wonder Wad between powder and patched ball. It was hard to load, but the thing shot like a rifle at 50 yards.

.

I too used a .535" PRB in my .56SB - and it was also fairly versatile with birdshot in a 28ga shotcup & an overshot wad.
