The .401 was the caliber for the 1910 model Winchester autoloader. According to the advertising, it "hit like the hammer of Thor."

A friend had one and I helped him shoot it a few times. It recoiled like the hammer of Thor, slung those expensive cases to far distances in all directions and made the Ruger .44 Magnum autoloading carbine look like a target rifle by comparison. But in thick woods for quick shots it would have done the business, all right.

The WInchester Model 1910 in .401 SL was used mostly as a law enforcement and security weapon. Frequently used by prison guards. My grandfather had one and used it for deer hunting. How he hauled that thing around in the woods I don't know, the thing felt like it weighed a ton, but probably weighed 8 or 9 pounds. As stated above, it kicked like a mule.

My grandfather used to use imperial 30-30s, no idea where he ever got them.

God Bless, and One Love.

Thanks for the kind works. Normally this would get tossed, but it came home with me. The imperial brand 3030 with the yellow plastic tip, or sabre tip is the most accurate 3030 I have ever used to bad it isn't made any more.

I posted these pics before. There is an old box of European 3006 in enblocs, WW2 380-200 and 455 webley from 1931 plus misc 303, got a few more boxes since then. The ammo is still good I have used it, if it hang fires I put it in the collection.
I included the pic of cordite sticks if any one hasn't seen it before.
