Well I finally have it in hand and a nice 70 degree day to try it out . It's a early Dixie gun works Tenn. mountain rifle 50 cal 7/8" barrel 42" long not real light but glad it's not the common 15/16" barrel ! Overall it's a decent gun for what I got it for along with a matching percussion lock . Took it out and made some smoke with it this late am . Cast balls .493 and a .015 patch semi moist with 6:1 water/ balistol , started at 50 gr 3F and went up to 65 best was 60 gr . I was concerned that with the shallow rifleing I'd have to swab after every shot but they all went down about the same not swabbing the .015 patch was very snug and took a couple good smacks on the starter with my hand to get it in . She sparks good and never had a misfire must have shot about 40 shots .

Congrats on the new rifle. Them suppository guns will never catch on, anyway.

40 shots is great out of one flint without knapping!
