I want to weight my own gator hooks. I asked a buddy about some lead and he got me like 90lbs and said have fun. I was wondering what material could I make molds out of and which ones I could not. i think I can handle the melting it down but after that I'm lost

Are you talking about pouring a collar of lead along the shank of a huge hook you bait with chicken and such?

you should be able to make a one time use mold from hardwood.

"Willie" just slipped an aluminum collar over the hooks, set them in a bucket of sand and filled the collar with lead.
I couldn't find a vid on YouTube showing it, but as posted above, people were making them out of wood, as well as using buckets with sand. You might use styrofoam around the shanks, pour sand around that then pour in the lead, as the foam melts the lead replaces it.

lots of stuff is molded with sand and cast in.
I'd cut some pipe and slip it around the shank and pack the hook in sand to form a bottom, then fill it up.
