You have the start of a good bolt action rifle in 7.62x39!

Would not the boltface need welded up, recut, and extractor re-worked to engage the x39 case head?

Good buy! So many possibilities. Did the seller have any explanation as to how a receiver only came about?

I'll triple your investment if you send that junk to me. Really.

One of my favourite authors on shooting and fishing is Thurlow Craig, who besides cowboying in Argentina and Paraguay in the 20s, was a Hotchkiss gunner in the Brazilian Paulista revolt of 1932. It was something of comic-opera affair, in a country where he claimed revolutions fulfilled the function of general elections. They had general elections as well,, but nobody took any notice.

He reports that many of the revolucionarios were quite good at cleaning the outside of their rifles, but saw no benefit in cleaning the bore, which nobody could see. There was a firm belief that accuracy would be harmed if a rifle was cleaned with rags from women's clothing. It is possible that this answers your question.

That is so true. Preventative maintenance is not in the vocabulary down there.

Off to a "Cheap" start...find an equally cheap barrel. Bets it will likely come in 7X57 or 6.5X56
I only use cartridges with the Head "native" to the bolt and feed components...Reduced my frustration Immensely!!!!
Makin me jealous...but, I can't do Yard Sales, and barely can take the Flea Markets!!!

Edit;
If you have problems locating a suitable Tube, LMK
I may be Offing a Couple...Including a "project" 300 Savage bbl that I may dispose of...
