Just purchased a NIB 2005 Legacy 94 Winchester. I have read a bit about the 2 different brass lengths from Starline but not sure which to go with. I want to start shooting the NRA Cowboy Silhouette competitions. Wondering if anyone has experience with this rifle and what brass size wold work best. Still debating what cast bullet to try.

I shoot the long brass in my 38-55 with the Lyman 375449. But my rifle's a bit different. I call it the Cowboy Jap.

Just wondering what brass you ended up with.

I have a new "sporter" which is basically the same rifle, made by Miroku in Japan which i believe the legacy is too.

My older OFW commemorative made in the USA in 1980 would take the 2.125 brass with Lee .279 250gn.

The new rifle will chamber the longer cases but the last 1/8" requires some force and when extracted i can see marks where the bullet is being forced into the rifling.

So i started gradually shortening the brass a little at a time until the bullet wasn't hitting the lands and the end result is that i settled on a trim length of 2.080, the same as Starline new standard length brass.

When in doubt, go short. The long brass can get you in trouble pressure wise if you cram it into a short throat and then run a redline load.
