My wife and I took a trip to Cabela's to pick up some powder and primers. On the way home we stopped at a couple of new thrift stores.

Pickings were pretty slim till I found this large pewter champagne bucket. I'll get some pics tomorrow but it does have a hallmark on the bottom, the word Étain on the bottom. Joints are soldered, it's pretty thick but I was able to deform it ever so slightly and it scratched like pewter. If this bucket is solid pewter I did pretty good for $25.

I think that's what the Pewter Vendor on here has been using. Nice find! Post a pic so we know what to look for. I'd probably overlook it!

I found a 5 piece set today for $20.00 at Goodwill. Don't know how I did until I get home and weigh it tonight.

I figure anything under $2/lb is a good price for hallmarked pewter.

Anything under $2/lb is a damn good price in my book.

I have to work pretty hard to find it under $5/lb.

Etain is French for tin. Great price. Congrats on your find.

Hell, it might be worth more as it is than just tin? Looks mighty nice to me.

Thanks. We like it here. I've got 2.5 acres with a pond out back.

If you look closely you can see the seasonal creek back there.

:D Check it out with a reputable dealer.Last year,a friend in Ga got a set of coffee pot and six cups and a creamer and platter for about $35.00.Had a dealer check it out before he turned it into little coins.Good thing he did.Walked out of the dealers shop with almost $2200.00 bucks in his pocket.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

Only problem with getting it checked out by a reputable dealer is that it`s kinda hard when the nearest resident to you are cows!Robert

Beautiful. Do you get deer there?

I've never seen any in the yard, but I have seen them around the creek just up the road.

:D Hi Hardcast416Taylor.Yep,that`s true.My friend had to make a 150 mile round trip journey into Atlanta to see the dealer.Had to wait a couple of weeks to go when he had a business trip scheduled.Turned out most profitable on both counts.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.
