I have just added a Lyman 66 aperature sight to my 1886 and groups have realy improved (Just shows how bad my aged eyes are).

This 10 shot group benchrested at 100yards with a load of 43.5gns 3031 and a 420gn Hensley & Gibbs boolit mould is showing promise!:Fire:

You still have 3031 ?

Good shooting for 100 mtrs with open sights. These days I limit my open sights shooting to 50 mtrs - I have difficulty even seeing the target at 100 mtrs.

When I used to use it, 3031 produced the best groups for me with 47gr behind a similar weight bullet. These days I use 45gr of Rel 7 behind a 415gr HP and it also is very accurate.

Yeah! I got 4 of 3031, 4 of 4227 and 1 1/2 of 4895 about 3 years ago at a cleanout sale for $100! Except for one they were all sealed and have proven OK!

Excellent grouping and shooter.
Italian gun maker. Davide sure knows how to build em to shoot straight.

Mine is the sporting model with 26" barrel and full magazine. I would hate to be using the stalker or borebuster models that are a full 2 lb lighter. Even with starting loads of around 1500fps, it kicks like a mule!

Nice shooting. It's hard to put a good ten shot group together. Nice looking gun too.

192090Beautiful rifle Wallace. To truly feel the "mule" you need a crescent butt :) Nothing like an 1886 in my opinion. I shoot about half black powder and half equivalent smokeless loads. In my younger days I used to speed things up a bit, now I am satisfied with BP velocities. The tang sight has really helped with shooting paper at 100 yards.

BAW,
I have just ordered the Pedersoli 1886 Sporting Rifle (quoted $2800ish) and am looking fwd to developing some loads.
I am using ADI 2207 in my 45-70's (a Sabatti DR and a Pedersoli Boss Sharps)
I am using cast bullets but off the shelf not self cast at the moment.
I am interested in a tang sight but can only find a receiver sight that says it fits the Sporting 1886 at the moment?
Are you happy with the rifle?

Very happy! Deep 'ballard" type rifling tapered depth rifling the same as the Sharps models. Broening & Marlin will not feed the long 500gn boolits through the mag. If you want to PM me your address I will send you a sample of the Hensley & Gibbs 420gn boolits that I use.

I've had excellent results with Varget. May try it as well if you haven't.
