Has anyone measured this one out of the mold?

Can it be sized down to .431 and still have any groove left?

Louis,

I routinely take of .002 and there is plenty of lube in the grooves. Surely another half a thousanths per side would work for you.

I just got one yesterday and sized up a bunch at .431". There is plenty of lube groove left. I used Felix Lube in a Lyman lubrisizer.

Has anyone Mic'ed one of then out of the mold to measure as cast diameter

I have and do. Remember that not only alloy but temperature* will effect the final diameter. Casting at 650° with 95% WW, 5% Tin, and 2 oz #8 shot per 10# of alloy and then water quenched my bullets are .432" from both the 2 cavity and 6 cavity molds I use. Using the same alloy mix and treatment but at a temperature of 800°, the bullets will drop .433".

*An aluminum mold will expand as "high" temperatures are applied. The expansion is not uniform as temperature is applied, the bullets tend to be out of round by a small number in the ten-thousands but true up with immediate sizing.

Hey Michael,

Have both the 265 & the 285 grainer. Noticed the only difference easily spotted is that on the 285, more of the nose gets sized. These are about the best .44 boolits out there if you ask me so good work on ya for that.

Something occured to me in looking at them though, a guy might get easily mixed up and put a 285 grainer into a load for a 265 if he's not careful.
