I just acquired and melted down 600 lb. of lead sheet(reagent tank) with a fairly hard lead alloy pipe soldered on as stiffener. Doesn't scratch as easily as pure lead with thumbnail. Bullets from lee 358-158-RF weigh 160 grains, while bullets from ww+2%tin weigh 158 grain. A back to back crush test shows ww bullet definitely harder. I think it's maybe 1 to 2% antimony with enough tin to cast very nicely. Expect there're hard enough for 750 fps .38 special target loads. Any advice?

I would say that they should work well for a 38 special target load. I have used pure lead for low velocity 38 loads. I just made sure I kept them under a thousand fps. and one to two thousandths over sized.

I recently melted down some dental X-ray foil backers that are about the same as you describe. Yes, it will work fine for your .38 loads, and you can add some antimony if you want it a little tougher.
