Remove Finish on Uberti Cattleman Hombre?

I've got the above SA revolver in .357, I like it's action and the way it shoots very much. A little less impressed with the finish, a matte I don't know what. Epoxy, paint, some other kind of coating?

Curious if anybody has removed that finish and polished and cold blued it themselves? If so, what technique did you use to remove the finish? Degree of difficulty? How was your final result? Pictures of the finished product would be great!

I've checked into having the gun professionally refinished; I got a great deal on the gun and it looks like it would cost more than I paid for it to be stripped, polished, and hot blued. If it can't be done within reason at home, I'd just as soon keep it as is.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to post the videos. Unfortunately he only shows the finished products, i.e., the gun stripped, and then blued, with almost no mention on how he actually did it, or the difficulty factor.

I had seen them before and didn't really find them to be much help.

Steel wool and sandpaper...is what he said...and I am sure that would do it.

You can remove the finish cheaply by buying a bottle of lemon juice from the grocery store. Put it in a pot and put the gun parts in for about a half-hour. It comes out dull looking bare metal. You can polish it if you like. I used Van's Instant Gun Blue to cold blue it after my mistake. It takes several applications, with some rubbing inbetween, but it is the closest to hot blue I have found. I have tried 44-40 cold blue and Birchwood Casy cold blue and don't use them anymore. Not near as good as Van's.

Used to be an piece on Beartooth Bullets about hot blueing smaller parts with tree stump remover. Not sure if it is still there but it may be worth looking.

I believe most tree stump remover is potassium nitrate.

i would have bead blasted the gun and rust blued it and it would have turned out perfect. each to there own.
