Started this project a while ago. Bought this gun in good shape but well used, took barrel off and disassembled entire gun. Cut barrel down to close up cyl gap, cut 11 degree forcing cone, installed over sized cyl latch and installed oversized cyl pin. put a spring kit in it and made a taller front sight. cut hammer spur shorter and rounded frame butt. Like to make some custom grips anyone have some ideas?

Checkered. My .45 Blackhawk never felt right to me until I had Lett (now out of business) custom make fancy walnut with Ruger medallions checkered grips. All my Colt's SAA's have checkered grips in gutta percha. I've had smooth imitation ivory which have been removed. Whatever material, get 'em checkered. Purpleheart is a great hardwood for Ruger grips too. My Ruger SBH 3 screw wears purpleheart.

I have the same gun in blue, the gun in my avatar...I have left it stock as it works great for me...I actually like that long, standard hammer. I did change the grips to thin set of Altamont, gunfighter type. I love mine...GREAT shooting gun and in my favorite cartridge.

I have the same gun in .45colt...but, I don't really care for it...not a 45colt fan.
