Sounds like a great day! Glad to hear the eye glasses were helping out. Might want to recheck the SW29 being a 357 though. The model 29 is 44mag. Is it a model 19? That's a 357. I'm looking forward to getting out here in WNY. We're digging out from a lot of snow right now. Rain sounds good right about now.

Yep, fuzzy front sights can often be fixed by a trip to the optometrist.

Just love a good Model 19 and it looks like you have a good one. In my mind, Bill Jorden had it right with his comment about the "Combat Magnum."

I currently have a late Model 19 4" after literely wearing out my original, circa 1974, Model 19 4" as an LEO shooting in matches, qualifications and just for fun.

I have several 19s, all 6" guns. All of them are older models and shoot better that I can hold them. I bought a 83/8" m27 last summer, I've had a few 27s in the past 5" guns. Never shot
them much, couldn't see the point of dragging a 357 on N frame around the woods. The 83/8"
turned out to be the most accurate 357 I have ever owned, which is more than a few. Groundhog
steels at a 100' are no problem. It's a trade off, the bulk and weight of 27 vs the perfect size and
weight of 19. I don't use full power mag loads in my 19s. That's the big trade off.190898

my error,,mine is a model 27 highway patrol which I've had since 1965....bought it the year I graduated from high school
one of the fellas here questioned my model ....
on the original box it is marked as a model 27-2,
the blueing is a dull blue, and the barrel is stamped with highway patrolman

A good eye doctor who understands shooting is a god send. I was put in progressive bifocals and could not hit a barn from the inside. I talked to a guy who was a shooter. The area on your bifocal to aim is about a 1/16". He made a me a separate set of glasses with a fixed focal length that helps a lot. Or go to the dollar store and try out a few to focus at the length of your arm.

Put 100 +p 38s through my older model Taurus 66 today after playing with a semi auto for the past few months. Reaffirmed to myself that a medium length barreled 357 revolver is probably the most cast friendly, versatile, efficient, simple to operate, easy to load for, cheap brass (38s), potentially accurate, handgun anyone could possibly own.

My eye doctor is an avid shooter, sure is nice.

Silver creek, it's hard to argue with that. It's certainly a VERY useful combination. Dale53

The 27 was a great gun. I had one with a short barrel, nickel plated, shot good. I was given factory .38 specials and was mixing them with mag loads. One old special load stuck at the muzzle and I split the barrel at the muzzle. I sent it back and had an 8-3/8" barrel with a rib installed and bright blue with nickel stripped. How far back? Cost $35 at the time. I put a Phantom scope on it and could hit 1" targets at 100 yards from prone.
I used the old 358156 HP with 2400. The only problem I had was the front bushing would move out of the cylinder and make it hard to cock.
Then Ruger and S&W came out with the .44 mag and the rest is history. A journey with the .44 from 1956 to now but I miss all the guns that went away.

I surely agree.

Last week I shot my 19-3 snubby for the first time in many years. Loaded some 158 grain gas checked lead bullets with Power Pistol. Enjoyed every shot.

For sight correction,go to ebay and look for clip-on diopter. These use your regular glasses but change your focal point to the front sight. This allows you to keep any other correction your prescription glasses.(astigmatism) provide. A power of +1.00 is right.

Very true. My shooting glasses with tempered-shatter-proof lenses are +1 from my normal prescription.

My Model 28 with 6" barrel is often my revolver of choice for relaxing range time with moderate 357 loads. It hangs with the best of 'em.

atr, you must have wrong box and paper for you 357. Your gun is a 28 Highway Patrolman. Same
N frame as 27, with the dull finish and ramp sight.
I have bifocals for the last 5 years and have a hard time getting a good site picture on my S&Ws
that have the ramp sights, especially the ones with red inserts. The Patridge sights on the Target
models are a lot easier for me to see. I have been swapping out the ramps for the Patridge blade
on most of mine. I have two m25-5s that I am stuck with ramps because sights are milled on rib.
The older P&R guns can swap sights just by driving out pin.191078

It may be the box gun was sold to you in, but not correct for gun. If you open cylinder the model
is stamped into frame under yoke with serial number. If buy fluke this gun is stamped m27, some
mistake was made at factory. 28 & 27 share same frame, but only 28 is stamped HP. 27 has high
polish blue and 6" gun would have Patridge sight. 28 in pic.191127

Also available at amazon. I bought these clip on and they really made a difference being able to see my open sight revolvers......... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BIN7QP0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

All this talk about eye correction. Yesterday I was shooting my cap pistil, Colt's 1860. So it was one pair of glasses to pour the powder and cap the nipples, then switch to a different pair of glasses that focus on the front sight to shoot.

You will not believe it. I am so happy to not wear glasses other then sunglasses outside, it is crazy. No more for range, sights, computer and can actually read without but still need cheap cheaters for real close or small, like 6".
My friends got Lasic to correct lens things but it does not stop cataracts. They did well but might still have to have more later.
I got so bad even a scope could not be focused. How I hated glasses. I am free now. Opens are as sharp as 40 years ago.

yes, I am starting to get cataracts, but not bad enough to operate on. My new glasses work great for pistol shooting but not for sighting through rifle scopes. My old glasses are good for sighting through scopes but NOT for pistol shooting...go figure.
all is well
