I have a 94 rebored by JES to 38-55.

The problem is I can't get a cartridge to go into the magazine. Using the loading gate I simply cant make the angle into the magazine. Bullet is a 255 Lee cast.

Any suggestions?

Big clue. A 30-30 wont go either. Taking it apart.

The magazine plug was stuck in the receiver real tight. Took a brass punch to knock it out. No rust, no burrs, just jammed in good. Go figure.

Must have been a plastic one. I hate them and also the tension the gate has. Thumb nails take a beating at times. One day I will fix mine.

And bony arthritic fingers don't help either.

The loading gate on my LF38/55 feels like a bear trap!!

.

I would suggest that, while it's apart, you stone both the inside leading edges of the magazine throat in the face of the receiver, and the inside leading edge of the loading gate - for smooth functioning and peace of mind.......

Make sure you do not leave a sharp edge on the loading gate you will regret it.

Trust me had to have stiches due to doing that and learned right away round the front edge of loading gates.

On my Rossi 92 which had a similar problem with sharp edges in the loading gate area, I used the back half of a drill bit to burnish all the sharp edges. It worked well, and no stone particles inside the action.

Glad you got it fixed! How does it shoot?
