Got some paper 410s and 20s. Fraid to shoot the 410s they are probably zingers. I need to set the old hydraulic Spolar up and kick out a couple of cases of 20 and 28. Post some picks here when I get home.

I not only have a wooden G.I. ammo crate filled with boxes of paper shells I found an unopened full wood Winchester ammo crate of target shells at an auction of a hardware store in a small town that had been closed for many years back in 1990. The manifest was still on the box with a 1958 shipping date. Once again I am sorry I cannot figure out how to post photos.Robert

To post pics here, I just noticed a click thingy, directly above, the left square one, in the middle, that makes it really easy instead of just quite easy.

those directions are good from the dialog to post page

I love the way a fired paper hulled shell smells , brings back memories of rabbit hunting in the 1960's with my dad and uncles. I would pick up every empty hull and bring them back home.

Plastic just doesn't smell the same.

Agree! I use to shoot quite a bit of clay targets & would purchase cases of Federal paper target loads in 28gram 12 ga. Man what a fast load. I would reload them with black Powder or if a partial jug of a synthetic powder was around I'd use it up.

Nothing will wake a quite sporting clays trapper up faster than letting loose 2 12 shells of BP on a frosty morning.

I have several pounds of powder from teh 60's and 70's that when loaded smells like the old powder smell.

The boxes in the wooden cases probably have not been touched or removed from case sin"e the day they were packed at the factory. I h!ve stored them for the last 25 years in a cool basement on wooden shelves. I have shot shells from some of the loose boxes in the last few years and rate of misfire is less than 1%.

Are those 6 shells 12 gauge or 20?

20 gauge came in clear (supposedly, but like the Yeti, I have never seen one) yellow and and then green, I believe. The only color 12 gauge came in was red, except for some extremely rare pre-production blue 12 gauge, which I understand was a first run of shells before Wanda changed them to red. One collector does have a loaded amber 12 gauge. If they are green 12 gauge, which I kind doubt, I'd hang on to them and do a little research. There are pictures of some 16 ga. flat boxes which show they were supposed to be amber in color, which is probably why Wanda changed the 20 gauge to green. Wanda only produced 12 and 20 before they closed the doors in 1971.

I have many boxes of the old paper, roll crimped shells. I have 20+ boxes of 12 & 20 Guage
and one box of 16g in the Win Mark 5s , paper shells but in the Foil boxes, just prior to them
going to plastic. I use these shells and they are just as good as when they were new. I also
have most of a case of 20g Elley Alfa Max, Long Range Water Fowl shells, paper and varnished?
I use them in my 24 savage. They are good ammo and there is no point in selling them and
paying for new HV shells. I hoarded this stuff for 50yrs, life is to short, I'm shooten' it. I'll
sell the empty boxes.

few years back a friend gave me about 15 rem sur shot . the brass was heavy tarnished. so thought i would see if they would go bang. first 4 did and were black powder. the brass came off and had to dig the paper hull out . tried another and it was a low bang and wad was in bore. tried the next . click dropped gun to eject and bang.the rest went in a post hole
