I know I've been here before, but please help me out. I have Unique powder and 150gr 309 (sized)cast boolits with gas checks that have been lubed with Lee alox (before and after sizing) I have a remington 722 in 300 savage and I started with 12 gr. Maybe I am answering my own question, but should I just ladder from there? Or would someone share their favorite with me and I can start with what you like, or have had good luck with?

Thanks

What kind of accuracy are you getting with 12gr? Go up or down 1 gr to see if that improves your accuracy. Get some slower powder and shoot for 1800 fps.

With my 14 year old grandson at the tigger and at 50 yards, 4 to 5 inches. This was the first time he had shot that gun. I am going to put it in the 'sled' and try it again, then I will have enough empties to do a nice ladder. Thanks for your help.

I stopped at 13.0 gr. of Unique using a 155 gr. boolet with a velocity of +/- 1750 FPS. Look into using any of the following powders.
IMR 4895
Imr 3031
Alliant 2400

While I am currently Running cast 90gr 32cal pistol bullets over Bullseye.
my records indicate that I was only at 9.0 gr of Unique, under the 150gr cast Boolit in my 300 Savage. 10.0 gr was not as Accurate, and I must have stopped there..
Maybe I'm a Wuss!!! But, again my records indicate that it shot very well...Better than me!

I envy your rifle. The 721/722s have a simple beauty & balance all their own. My
Custom 98 Mauser and Rem 81 .300s preferred IMR 3031overall.
Best. Thomas.

Personal opinion: I'd not go much above 12 grains of Unique. Use a slower powder if you want/need more velocity. Any of those already listed and/or any flavor of 4227 and 4198, Rx7 or 4759.

2400 is almost never a mistake in .30 cals with cast. Since both my .30-30 and my '06 do very well with it, I'd be shocked if you can't find a load that is both accurate and mild.
