30 caliber mold for Krag and 1903A3

I am looking at the Accurate 31-195RG gas check bullet to use in a sporterized Krag, Remington 03, and a Remington 03A3. The bullet will be used for general target work and casual shooting. I have not shot the 1892 Krag but it has a nice a bore as I have ever seen in one of these (I know, shame it was sporterized but by the looks of it it was done ages ago). I have shot commercially cast bullets from the Remingtons - both .309 and .310, and both seem to shoot reasonably well with both diameters as long as I keep the velocity under 1600 fps - bullets do not have gas checks. I have Accurate brass molds and really like them. Any experience with this mold? Other suggestions? I assume that a rather long nose would be better as I expect the throats are rather generous in size - especially in the Krag.

I use the NOE version of the 314299 and sized to 311 for both my Krag and my 03 on top of both 2400 and IMR4895

Using the NOE 311291 sized .310 in an 03 and several A3's over 13 gr Red Dot or 15.9 gr Blue Dot, and a NOE 311284 in a Krag sporter, also sized .310, over 10.2 gr Blue Dot. All shoot very accurately, but the Krag definitely prefers the heavier bullet. The Springfield's all have excellent bores but the Krag is pitted in the grooves from chamber to muzzle, so that may account for the difference.

How is the 311403 lubed? I assume a lubrisizer is not used.

I pan lubed them. Base is about .314, top band about .309. Tim

Thanks tward. I figured pan lube so as not to wipe out the fat band. I don't particularly like pan lubing and was hoping you had a trick. Does it shoot really well? It is a bit different than most bullets.

Wallnut, a good way to lube the 311403 is to seat them about half the depth of the base band, use a small brush and paint on liquid alox then just place in loading block to dry. Have some 30-40 and 30-06 drying now! About 9 gr. of Herco or 700X is accurate, cheap,and FUN.

I"m looking for a bullet to breach seat in a 30 30 and the 403 looks like it would work well. I would also like to use it as designed in my 03A3 and 30 40 #3.

I use #314299, wheelweight alloy, sized to .311" in a couple of .30-06s, an '03-A3 and a Model 70. I use the same bullet in a Ruger #3 .30-40 Krag. Most accurate bullet I've found so far for these rifles.

The RCBS 180sp is my best 30cal bullet. I use the 299 in my SMLE. A plain base bullet would be nice and I can't breach seat a Gas check.

That reminded me...I forgot about the RCBS 30-180 SP and the 30-180 FN. I started using these twenty-five to thirty years ago, but don't anymore. They are quite accurate and might be as accurate as the #314299, but I like the extra weight of the Lyman, about 202 grains in wheelweight. Might make a difference in the wind or at extended range. The Lyman #311284 is popular with some .30 caliber shooters. I've tried it and still have a mould, but I've always been able to find another design that will outshoot it.
