Smith 625 and 200 gr cast

Afternoon all

Looking for some advice/ guidance before I drop the hammer on a mold purchase.

Handgun is a Smith 625

Currently using plated 200 gr t.c. that I had loaded up for my 1911, and I've had pretty good luck with that design so far. Might clock the powder charge back a bit, but seem to work well for what I'm doing.

I'm leaning towards Accurate mold's design 45-200I http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=45-200I-D.png , mostly for the groove-less design, as I plan on powdercoating them.

As this seems to be the "go-to" center of the internet casting universe, has anyone else used this design? Had success with it? Had bad experience with it?

Intended purpose is low velocity, steel plates shooting

If your using 45 acp moon clips the truncuated cone or round nose loads easier than the semi wadcutters in the full moon clips do. Semi wadcutters shoot very good in my 625 but they take a little fiddiling to get loaded in the cylinder with 6 all at one time. The TC and RN just drop right in. I have a friend that casts me the 225 grn wadcutter and tose are a real bear in moon clips to get all 6 lined up at the same time LOL.

I've had several of them & only used RN cast with great success but as mentioned the TC style is also good & loads much easier than a semi wadcutter style. Something you might consider is the 452460 mould, that's a very popular style that could work for you. I think most will suggest something more like the Lyman 452374 that runs about 225 grs. in RN, it shoots great in everything & will load very nice, even without a gunsmith cutting a chamfer on your cylinder.

It is also available in a 2 cavity, or has been. I have the 2 cavity from before he started doing 4 cavity molds. I highly recommend this mold.

I shoot the 225gr RN out of my 625 and have had great success with it.

I use miha's 452374 with AR or ACP brass. I use other molds but this one works best (with 231 also).
