With the large following of 444 Marlin loaders we have here, I wonder if we could impress upon Ken to make this thread a sticky for all of us to put our favorite 444 Marlin loads in?

It would be interesting to compare the varied loads.

These first two are my personal "heavy" loads.

285gr LFN-GC (Boomer Mikey's GB of Lyman #429640) in Hornady (LeveRevolution) brass with Winchester primers and 52 grains of RL-7 for 2200 fps.

280gr Swift A-Frame JHP-Partition in Remington brass with Winchester primers and 50 grains of H-322 for 2150 fps.

I have some others, but will have to dig them up.

My "Thumper Load" for both of my Trip4's is:

• Remington® Case (trimmed to 2.215")
• Remington® 9½ large Rifle Primer
• 45.0gr H-4198 powder
• 290gr Beartooth® LFNGC Bullet (296gr total weight)

2249fps

My accuracy load for my 1972 444s is:

Rem brass
WLR primers
290 gr Beartooth. Been using BTB @ .432 and finally slugged the bore and came up w/,429. Go figger.
53 gr 335 will put 5 in .376 @ 50 yd off a bench, but it is not much fun.
Dropped back to 52 gr 335 but now am using a receiver sight and Lyman globe front so no way to compare. Why the iron sights? Well that was the plan from the beginning, but when the scope crosshairs shifted about 30 degrees out of plumb... Gotta remember to send that thing back.

Am going to try 56 gr 335 w/the RD 265 bullet and the Lyman429255....when it cools down a bit.

It's great the see the diversity here. Time to get my feet wet. Here goes!

42 gr Re-7 with 429244 Ray Thompson 250 grain
48 gr Re-7 with LBT 300 WFN

Practice loads use a 166 gr LBT OWC or the 429244 over 13 gr of Red Dot or 700X
These are fired from a Winchester 94 Big Bore. Helice

Gentlemen;

You-all sure are shooting light bullets!

Why not go ahead, rebarrel those out-moded slow-twist issue barrels to 1:16 and do some shooting? (Leave as much material on the barrel as seems possible and still hang the magazine tube)

In my 444, rebarrled as in above, I started with a 465 grain bullet and have now found that I get the best perfromance with a fine 500 grain Jones custom mold.

Load is conventional: 19 grains SR4759 + tissue paper filler and 0.050 card wad.

Good afternoon,
Forrest

HI,
I have 3 boolits to experiment with.
The Lyman 250 gr GC Kieth style SWC.
The 265gr. GC Ranch Dog , which drops out at 277grs. when sized & lubed.
The Lee 310 gr.GC , which drops out at 325grs when sized & lubed.

It would sure be nice if I could use ether WC860 or WC846 which I have.:Fire::Fire:

I have the short barrel Marlin guide gun. My favorite load is 46 gr H4198, Speer 240 gr Deepcurl bullets. I have several 44 cal molds and I guess eventually I will try cast bullets in the 444, but this load preforms so well for me I can't see me changing it. I can put better groups on paper at 100 with this gun and load than I can with either of my 7mm.

HI,
I posted here as I was starting a new series of experiments with the 444 Marlin lever action.
I will be combining this with the the SURPLUS POWDERS IN THE 444 MARLIN in the LEVERACTINS FORUM as the most response & interest was there.:Fire::Fire:

48 gr. H322 with Remington primers and the 300 XTP or Speer SP. The Speed bullets group a little tighter in my long lever gun.

Not a max load, but quite powerful. And I got it, of all places, from an article in a gun comic....but that was 20 years ago.

I am switching over to boolits now.

Long live the 444[smilie=w:

Can ya still get .444 rifles and brass? I'd thought that one was dead long ago. :kidding: :kidding: :kidding:

hornady 265 over 45.3 of imr 4198. rem nickel brass and cci lg rifle.

lee 310 gr gc wheel weight alloy over 47 gr of varget. same brass and primer

I have shot the 265 over some 2f goex black. accuracy was decent. I imagine the 310 grainer would be better.

15.0g of Green Dot under a 240g Berry's Plated Hollow point was scary accurate in a Winchester lever gun a had a while ago. They say not to run that bullet over 1250 fps but I had no issues with fouling or accuracy and no doubt 15g of G/D was faster than that.

I've always wanted a 444 but the impossibilities of getting brass has stopped me. Now that star line is making it I may take a look at it again especially with some really heavy boolets...

This is for Australian shooters wanting a light accurate load--15 grains AP100 and NOE 265 gr hollow point- sized .432 --lubed with Jakes 50/50 will put 10 shots into 2 inches at 100 yds, has little or no recoil

444 plinker load 240 gr blem xtp or MP 503 clone atop of 46 gr H4198 both shoot great out of 444s. Win LRP and Sellier Bellot LR 5,3 both work great with these loads.

Just been working up a load with 431244 that DUTCHMAN passed on to me in a bulk buy. It bumps down to load and feed in 444 with surprising repetivity. Have to fine tune for Marlin but good enough vibe so far to take all my fallow this year for under $10! Scope is 2-7 x 35 Burris E1 etched reticle is standing up better than a a fine crosshair. Been juggling between pointblank online and Burris Reticle analysis. I was guesstimating 2250 but traj. is more suggestive 2400fps. Anybody got a quick load data. Barrel is Ballard 21 1/2".
