Been thinking of building a new bench in the garage using base cabinets. Driving through the neighborhood tonight one house had a bunch of cabinet bases with a free sign on them. I scored a pair of double width bases one with a single door and the other with a double. The third cab was a single width all drawer base. All the drawers work perfect. Just a bit of cleanup and mounting them to the wall.

Hmmm 5 foot of cabinets and if I rearrange things like the tool box in the garage I might be able to squeeze in a 9 foot bench.

You must be living right. If you need more, make friends with a high end cabinet installer. Often they do refits and have to dispose of existing cabinets.

Man, we're an interesting lot..... A man proclaims 'scored tonight' and we all IMMEDIATELY think lead....but no, it's the beginnings of a new bench, and we're just as excited for him. :drinks:

That's what my first bench was made of. Next go to the local home improvement store and look for counter tops that are in the return area.

The meaning of "Scored" seems to change with age. I too thought of finding a wheel weight.

A counter top with formica would be nice or maybe look for a solid core door. Those should make a good base for a table and provide lots of storage.

I looked over the counter tops tonight at the local home store. No deals to be had and they all seemed to have strange ogives on the edges that would not work well with presses and such.

For a solid work top IKEA do wood block worktops in 2 & 3 metre lengths, stand a lot of abuse.

i thought he might have been on a date.

glue up a bunch of 2x4's for a top just remember to rip a 1/4" or so of the edge so it is flat.

At 18 or so, the meaning was not lead!
