I was looking at the flip up scope covers at Midway.com.
Prety neat except i had visions of the sniper movies.
Does anyone have ideas for homemade scope lens covers?
I saw something about using inner tube on another website but no elaboration.

7mm:

Just cut a ring off an auto or motorcycle inner tube, about half again as wide as the diameter of your objective bell (or eyepiece bell if that is bigger) and stretch it lengthwise over the whole 'scope. If not too tightly stretched (use a larger tube), you can flip it off with your thumb. A lanyard will keep you from losing it - if that matters.

A scope cover made from a car/cycle tire innertube, is EZ to make, but awkward to use, compared to one of the commercial offerings - and costs just as much if you have to buy the innertube (in this age of tubeless tires).

If you do get an innertube though, just cut off/out a 2"-3" wide slice, across the width of the tube, so you end up with a 2"-3" long rubber tube with a 10" diameter (or whatever the airless diameter of the tube is).

If the scope being capped has large objective and/or eyepiece(s), then cut a 3"-4" slice ILO a smaller one.

Hook one end over one end of the scope, and stretch the tube until the end can be hooked over the opposite end.
If you want to get fancy, the parts of the tube, between the scope ends, can be neatly trimmed/narrowed into 1" straps.
