Above are two images of a 9mm Para EAA Witness compensator once attached to my favorite indoor steel plate match pistol.

The two lower images are the same compensators after a seven day soak in "Evapo-Rust".

After nearly two years of trying various electrolytic contraptions, moleasses-water mixtures, rust disolving gels, homeopathic compounds, aroma therapy and several suggested heathen (no, I did not! :) ) methods not suitible for print here, I have at long last achieved success.

Many thanks go to member bro. 'Old Vic' for posting the civilised alternative and this be the stuff:

This liquid will also remove blueing.

Well kudos for the Evaporust though I have never tried it I have seen it at the local industrial supply outfit that I frequent. Care to tell up how the compensator got in that deplorable condition???

That compensator along with many other things were submereged in eaves deep salt and chemical laced water for 21 days. It was not until late Feb. '06 did I get to its rescue.

IMO, Evapo-Rust at $9.95 per 32 oz. is worth every penny spent. 'Auto-Zone' parts houses stock it.

.............That sure cleaned it up! I'm really hopeing it wasn't screwed on to a pistol when it got to be in that shape. Oddly the threads look to be in nice shape. Ya gonna use it still?

No, Buckshot, the comp barrel assembly was not on the gun when we ran for higher ground, thank Goodness.

My usual practice was always to remove the bbl. after a shoot, push a dry patch through the bore, spray the whole shebang with aerosol brake cleaner then apply a soaking spray of 'dollar' store aerosol silicone. I attribute the comp and bbl. threads' good condition to the silicone spray. That stuff penetrates very well into every crack and crevice.

Am I going to use the compensator? Well hell yes! :) Just as soon as I can afford a new bbl., guide rod and spring. $$$$

A post Evapo-Rust spa treatment:

If there is an outstanding feature of EAA Witness pistols that amazed me, is their proprietary 'Wunder Finish'. Notice the bbl. exterior. Some tough, Eh?

Yeah, Buddy! I'm glad too..:) Soo user friendly.

I'll probably squander my shooting & casting budget buying EvapoRust to clean dies, etc. I only thought were rust free.

Then there are the two revolvers and a SAECO mould crying for attention. The pistols are hopeless but should make an interesting project when time and $$$ are avialable.

Sure thing. More than happy to accomodate the membership with my limited camera skills.

Once I get a few chores behind me and get the Witness and digital camera set up, images will be posted. Any particular view or 'pose' :) you'd like to see? Not much more to view of salvaged compensator kit parts. But if you want, I'll attempt a shot of the crapped-up bbl. interior.
