Got a nice unaltered Remington 1903 today, has USMC 12-43 with a S inside a circle on the barrel, has the ladder rear sight all the metal parts have an R stamped on them, the stock has FFF with # 30 under letters with white paint inside the stamping.
bolt has the same serial # electro pencil engraved on it.
2 groove barrel still bright and shiny with very good rifling. Best part is only paid 500.
came with a 1942 dated bayonet and scabbard and really worn leather sling which broke shortly after I was fitting it on my arm.
will have to clean it as it has been stored with 400 others since the early 50s, guy has a huge collection of WW2 rifles and pistols plus lots of oddball guns like the Mauser zig zag revolver in 10.6mm and serial # 1 45acp Luger built by Mike Krause. Same as one built for 1911 army test trials. He let me take it from the box and hold it.
also has an original Colt Walker.
This guy is 95 and said he has been collecting guns since the early 40s.
he has a huge military style pistol rack full of 1911 and 1911a1s from 1913 to 1944 all in 65 % or better, a few a1s that were unissued, everything has cosmoline on it.
he is starting to sell off some of his collection and I'm hoping to pick up a few more of these guns.
he was a master gunsmith and engraver and has some beautiful rifles that he made, trying to get a few of them too, the wood he used was all exihibition grade, I was in awe when I saw his collection.

If it were me, I'd get a homeowner LOC and GO FOR IT!!!

Ditto, mortgage your wife and kids. If you can buy everything (like the 03) for 60% off, you can't go wrong.

Sounds like a nice gun and an awesome collection. I'm envious of your position to possibly be able to acquire more.

I would love to see his collection, it must be amazing! Collecting since the '40's, I bet there some very cool firearms there! Man you got a good deal on the Springfield, I've been thinking about picking one up myself.
