I've had this rifle for a while, but hadn't tried it with PP until today. I don't know why I waited so long, it works great! Using the NOE NRA 175 gr. Bullet patched to the second groove, it allows it to seat to the base of the neck and fill the throat. Loaded over a compressed charge of AA 2230, it was clocking 2165 fps. With accuracy around MOA. Pretty much duplicates 30-30 performance in a bolt gun that holds 10 rounds and uses free pickup brass from the range.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170306/dcca15dd2085286d725ec5ada161fa86.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170306/5dc4640d97a4a897beb9097f2533c98c.jpg

That's pretty dang cool, what rifle do you have it in? And what's the COL?

Rifle is a Rem 700, originally a .223. Now in an MDT chassis stock with detachable mags. Don't remember the OAL but they just fit in the mag.

I love my 30-223 chambered AR15. I have to keep the bullets at magazine length which means 150gr is my max bullet unless I want to drop below the neck.

Nobade: What's the reason for not patching up over the top groove? And is this NOE's gas checked version boolit?

If I run the patch further up it has to seat deeper in the case or it won't chamber. And yes, the bullet has a gas check shank but I don't use checks on it.

Nice.
Do you lube the exposed nose?
Or don't you have problems with bare lead engraving the bore?
Certainly about the same speed I get out of my 30-30 with accuracy.

Initially I was worried about the exposed lead, but after trying it I found it wasn't a problem. I suppose you could dip it in tumble lube for a little extra protection, but in this rifle and in the 30-30 with the same bullet it just doesn't seem to be an issue.

What diameter is the bullet before patching and final size after ?

.301" to start, patch adds .011", then run through a .308" sizer so with springback final diameter is .309". It works out perfect, since that is a snug slip fit in a fired case and also is the same size as the throat so it gets a good seal but doesn't get torn up when chambered.

Interesting, I have a 30-223 but it is not the AI version. Have shot 110 gr up to the Lee 230 gr BK , It seems to like them all. My rifle is a Savage Axis rebarreled to the 30-223 with a 17 inch barrel and 1 and 10 1/2 twist. Not sure who made the barrel, got it in a trade.
Wonder if sizing to .304 would work before patching ? Have a Lee type die in that diameter but not one in .301

Probably work just fine as long as the lead is soft enough to let you close the bolt, and paper thin enough to not be resizing the bullet when you final size it.

Nobade, in your first pic the unloaded bullets are pointed, but loaded ammo presents as a minor RN form. How?

Seating die stem. It smashes a little flat on the nose. Very observant, I wondered if anybody would pick up on that.

Good catch, I bet his seating die wasn't for a spire point.
