Powders for .30 Carbine Blackhawk

I've been using Hodgdon's H110 exclusively for my .30 Carbine Blackhawk and rifles (M1 Carbine). It's a great powder and there's plenty of data on its application with the .30 Carbine for both the rifle and Blackhawk.

I'd like to try something else in addition. Something not made by Hodgdon? What about Accurate Arms #9? Is there data for these powders for my application?

For my Blackhawk, I use a lite load of Red dot and RCBS 115 gr. Cast bullet.

H110 & 2400 are the 2 main powders for the 30 carbine Blackhawk. I've always used 2400 in mine using 100 gr. Plinkers, 110 gr. RN jacketed & 134 gr. cast.

Ickisrutz, thanks for the link. The list of powders in there is fairly extensive, and not surprising, mentions AA#9. Here's the puppy I'm focused on pushing out the barrel:

Personally, I use 2400 and 4227 with my hard cast bullets.

How about AA 4100? BTW, is that a new powder, relatively speaking?

I like AA9 in 30 Carbine. Never loaded cast boolits, just j-words.

For a lite load, 4.5 gr of Red Dot at 25 Yds. My 100 yd. load is 12gr 2400. Bullet is RCBS 115 Gr. GC

Have owned two BH Carbines but only have an OM left. Both were very accurate guns but one problem I had with both is that the front sight was too short. Even with the rear sight bottomed out the groups were several inches high at 25 yards. Solved the problem by having the front sight milled off and a taller Patridge installed.

Have used the following loads...

Winchester case
CCI Small Rifle Primer
H110 powder

Speer 100 grain plinker/16.0 grains/1502 fps

Hornady 90 grain XTP/16.0 grains/1415

Accurate Molds 31-120S 120 grain plain base flat point sized .3095/14.0/1485

I have not shot .30 Carbine very much but now that I have the .327 Federal bug it has been getting more attention...

So how much recoil in the pistols ? Can you shoot regular 30 carbine in the Blackhawk?

I ended up with a fair amount of grocery for the 30 m1 carbine. Thinking of setting up a lee 1000 just to load for this caliber. If recoil is low enough, these pistols I'm thinking of these would be nice for the girls to shoot, in a few more years.

Now before anyone tells the reason for not getting them for women, young girls, at eight they had already shot 12 ga light loads, now 10 and we are going on to start shooting at bench etc.

There just something about I like about this caliber.

From what I understand, full loads intended to be shot in the M1 Carbine are incredibly loud. Personally I have never loaded rounds for my Blackhawk that exceeded 1,300 fps. With 120 grain bullets at this velocity and under there isn't any recoil to speak of. It's not that loud either.

AS mentioned above with 12 grs. of 2400, very good with several different bullets in the 30 carbine. I also shoot mostly 32/20's in mine because of the rim, makes life much easier as far as loading. If your gun is a new model you can do the same, if it's an OM you can't because your cylinder is recessed. I load with 32/20 dies & size my cast bullets to .311"-.312" & they shoot terrific. The brass does need to be sized just a bit & after a few shots the shoulder is almost totally gone on 32/20 brass, works great.
