Oh please don't let it be plagued with all of the problems of the new GP100 .44 special!!!
Maybe, just maybe, somebody checked these out before they were boxed up.

I wish Elmer Keith had lived to see his #5 available from the factory.

I wish Elmer Keith had lived to see his #5 available from the factory.

Heck, it still hasn't ever been available from the factory...Texas Longhorn Arms made a few of the Improved # 5...but it was significantly different than Keith's gun and the Ruger Bisley guns only resemble #5...much different.

Keith's #5 was built on the Colt SA gun.

Description of #5 and how it came to be. But the Ruger is probably as close as I'll ever get. ;)

I have found myself wondering what Elmer would think of all the modern advances in the firearms world since he passed away. New powders, new bullet styles, new gun steels. What would he think about the 480 Ruger or 500 Linebaugh for that matter. How about his 44s with Bisley grip frame and hammer from the factory no less ! Folks we are living the dream as far as lovers of firearms is concerned. I just thank Elmer for ushering us into the modern era from black to smokeless powder.

I so wish Ruger would do a .41 like this.

Actually, I had to make this one, a couple of years ago...it is not a factory gun.

For shooting, I much prefer the plow handle grip over the Bisley...but the Bisley looks better.

Of course, it was. I say Keith would have embraced this Ruger as a worthy embodiment of his design.

Go ahead, try to prove me wrong.

I'm the opposite. Both my .41s are Bisleys & I'm hooked on 'em. Might have to try to find a 4 5/8" .41 Flattop & fit a Bisley grip frame to it.

What is there to gain over a Bisley 44 mag or 45 Colt? Maybe 2 ounces or so due to a possible shorter cylinder? Or does Ruger use the same frame on their 44 mag and 45 Colt Bisleys?
Not being critical, just trying to understand.

I have both the large frame Rugers and the mid-frames. The mid-frames just simply handle better. Does it make any difference? It does to me, but YMMV...

The 44 Special is on the mid-frame...44mag and 45colt are on the large frame.

Actually, the relatively new .45ACP/.45 Colt flattop is also a mid-size frame. As I have stated before, if my Bisley .45 ACP/.45 Colt was not so satisfactory, I would buy one as I really like the flat tops.

I thought he was talking about the Bisley guns...the gun you mention is not available with the Bisley grip frame.

I had to horse trade and get the parts to put together this same gun. It was worth it; shoots very well.

Smaller frame makes sense. Would be nice to see a side by side comparison as well as weight difference between the two.

There is a 3-4 oz difference in weight, depending on caliber, and if you have the guns side by side you'll see the mid-frame is slightly smaller, but for me, the mid-frame guns feel much better. I am going to have to see if I can't get one of these.
One of my favorite guns is a 44 special Ruger Flattop, which I don't see catalogued any more, that shoots wonderfully well. I think that I'd really like one that has the bisley frame that I prefer.
