When I run across a fellow shooting a long rifle It gets my attention. I have always had a spot for the flint long rifles.
I watched this to see how fast the ignition was and I must say he has this rifle tuned very good.
Picture #1 the flint strikes the frizzen you can just see the sparks. The lock is tuned very good.
Pretty good recoil after the smoke cleared :D

That looks like our own rfd! I have watched a few of rds's videos, EXTREMELY FAST LOCK TIME! I'd wager a bet he's tuned a few Flinters over the years!!

He looks like a feller that would be worth spending several days at the range with shooting the long rifles. Watching him shoot in slow motion I can see that he is dedicated to shooting the flints the way he follows through and his eyes from start reaching for the trigger to after recoil.

Yes sir, if this is rfd which I believe it is? I have watched a few of his videos, He DEFINITELY knows his business with Flinters!! It is neat to watch a guy that is good with them! Waksupi is a Magician with Flint locks as well, he has some really good Youtube videos on here! If i lived closer i would love to shoot with these guys (with my cap guns and patched bullets of course! LOL)

guilty as charged.

the simple, relatively cheap lyman GPR lock can be a fast one, indeed.

i am but a mere lifelong student of the flintlock long gun, Waksupi is the true master.

.

Every once in a while, a rocklock shooter can get lucky, right out of the box - like I did with a .50cal Austin & Halleck Mountain Rifle, which had the fastest frontstuffer ignition that I've ever experienced (including inlines & sidelocks).

that there's a right pretty A&H.

the "luck" in any lock is that it's not defective and has decent geometry. the rest is in what you do with that lock. mass produced locks have "built in geometry" and they is what they is, so yer only concern is about a possible defect ... if found, which is quite rare with lyman/investarm products, the warranty will make the fix. aside from that, a lock "tune up" is all that's required, no big deal.

rfd I watched this video very close because I noticed the ignition was fairly fast. Also your follow through. When you look at the barrel position on the knee brace on that post the barrel did not move from the time you shouldered the rifle set the trigger and set it off. I will call you a hard holder :) even with out seeing the holes in the paper. By the way your using a very good camera.

I'm down to three M/L. Build a few over the years, mostly Hawkens and my last rifle that caught my eyes was one build by Steve Losey.

It is a steel mounted rifle to resemble the ones that J. Henry was building for trade with the American Fur Company it has a 44" rice swamped barrel in 54 cal. a classic ketland lock that has the plate reworked to better resemble the locks henry used all the steel mountings where hand forged and fastened with copper rivets, everything I like in a long rifle. I like a simple rifle that looks like it was made out in the back shed. And it is a fine shooter. Tried to hold it with out cutting the lines as close to the V I could.

a most beautious flinter ya go there, kurt. and it appears to be a darn good shooter, to boot.

i've got an in-the-white hawken that tom watson built for me, with a 1x36 rice radius grooved .50 barrel that bobby hoyt now has for doing a .54 ream. looking forward to finishing that in a month or so and take some vids.

i use the vids to check both the gun's ignition/recoil and my shooting form. sometimes both can be humbling. i use a go-pro tripod mounted camera.

it should also be noted that all my flinters get fed swiss 3f, both down the barrel and in the pan ... with a good lock, there really is no need for 4f let alone null-b. it's nice to carry only one horn.

The rifle does shoot well. The day I shot that paper the winds were pretty tough so I snuggled close to the berm and shot off the sticks. A friend sent me some Teflon patches that are popular where he shoots. They seem to shoot pretty good and take a tight ball with out cutting through. But Teflon?????????don't seem right.
I mostly use 3F but the horn had 2F Olde Eynsford in it from the last time I used the .58 Hawken but the 2F OE's granulation is almost like 3F Swiss and it works fine in the pan also.

Mac what is the story behind that rifle??

I had an old junker african trade musket that was actually accurate and dependable, Good spark and accuracy out to 75 yards.

This is my new baby and its pretty darn fast as well.

It don't take the back seat to a cap or a suppository rifle for that matter. But please use a pair of shooting glasses. I hade a metal hair removed form my eye at a young age.
