In the current issue of "The Fouling Shot" (#174), there is a brief article by Jay Dye (a machinist/gunsmith I think), desribing two products that may be of interest:

NAPA dgf 123 (dry graphite film) that sounds perfect for sprue plates & mold tops, maybe even mold cavities. The author gives it a 4- star (out of 5) rating. It retails for $5.75/can.

B'LASTER PB is a penetrating oil which doubles as a bbl./Pb solvent and rust remover that Dye rates as 5-star (out of 5). True Value hardware stores have it for $4 - $6 per can.

I've already ordered the NAPA dgf 123 and will look into B'LASTER PB soon. ...Maven

Maint: Rust Solvent ----FROM THE NET ... NOT FROM FELIX

Drivers,
I thought I'd tell you about a really incredible rust solvent
which will save your butt if you have a stuck nut/bolts, etc. No
this isn't an info-mercial and no I don't work for them...

The stuff is called "B'LASTER PB Penetrating Catalyst", by
B'laster Inc, of Cleveland, OH. 1-800-858-6605. I bought my
spraycan for $4 at Meijers/Wallyworld. Autozone doesn't carry it
but some other auto chains do.

This stuff works *GREAT*! It smells like wasp repellent (not
good) but it has enabled me to:
* Loosen two very rusty steel exhaust manifold air injection
flare fittings which were on my 14-yr old GMC 350 cu inch
motor...
* Remove a 26-yr old pilot bushing w/o resorting to a chisel...
* Remove a 26-yr old steel plug on a Chevy 307 head. We'd been
trying to get that dang pipe plug out for literally weeks before
we used the PB Blast stuff.
* Open 40-yr old rusty steel barn windows w/o using a torch! :)

This stuff is well worth it. It is 100 times better than Liquid
Wrench/WD-40 or anything like that. Go stock up before the EPA
makes it illegal (remember "Yield" from the 70's??) since it's
obviously too useful for us end consumers to have... :)

THIS STUFF APPEARS TO BE CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE GENERAL MOTORS TOP ENGINE CLEANER TO WARRENT STRONG PRECAUTIONS. IN OTHER WORDS, CLEAN GUNS OUTSIDE OF HOUSE, AND LEAVE IN OUTSIDE AIR SPACE UNTIL SMELLIES ARE MOSTLY GONE, ,,, FELIX

It is available via Ace and Tru-Value harware. If its not on the shelf they can order it. I used it several years ago when I was restoring VW Beetles. It is absolutley marvelous for removing frozen bolts and nuts. It is also great for making rubber look like new. Not a good idea to use it in the house, like Hoppee's #9 women don't appreciate the odor.
