I decided to stop by one of the local shops tonite on the way home from work. Mmmm, he just had to show me a new consignment that had come in. Model 1895 Marlin 45-70. It appears to be about 80%. It has one of those safety things on it. He stated that it was a limited edition. It has a 24 inch barrel that is half round, half octagonal. He stated it was manufactured around 2003. It also has a full length mag tube. I don't know a lot about Marlins, he has a price of $725.00 on it. Any help. I have kinda been looking for a lever 45-70...Just because, but don't know if this is a good deal or not. Any info/advice would really help. Thanks in advance.

Too high...for me, anyway.

But, I have no use for a 45/70 or a 24" barrel on a levergun.

That is more than I gave for any of mine, but that doesn't mean it is too much. I have never had a 24 in brrel, nor a half and half, so do not have a clue what the going price would be.
I do like the longer barrels though.

Compared to the new ones, it is not too bad of a deal. I'd rather pay that for a pre-Remington JM stamped used gun, than to buy a new "Remlin" any day. But that is just my $.02. Just check out the markings and make sure the date is true.....he might fudge a bit with all the bad press around the newer ones.

I would pay a little more for 24" barrel. I really like the half octogan. Price seems like the high end of what the rifle is worth. Thats what i expect from any LGS

80% condition isn't so great for the asking price.
If it were more like 95-98% and a confirmed JM barrel, then OK.
