Can anyone give me the approximate manufacture date of this revolver s/n 2417XX?

I think 1953. It should have a “C" prefix before the serial number.

Your revolver was made in 1915.

I have one similar to that. I emailed smith and wesson and they prompty replied with the exact year it was manufactured. You might send them an email.

I re-checked the book. If there is no letter prefix on the serial number Glen is right, 1915. If “C” prefix it is probably 1953 (I think).

Following cbr’s advice will give you the definitive answer.

No prefix. I had no idea it was that old.
