Could the monoblock be bored out a bit to allow a thicker barrel shank?

What make and model is the original rifle?

I just measured the cyl. wall thickness of a .32 cal S&W mod 31 and it is only .065". What is the length of the monoblock? Can you bore it another .100 or maybe to .625 ? In .38 cal the longer the barrel the more stress on the thin barrel shank when you grab the middle of the barrel to snap the action closed. I would want more chamber dia. and try boring the monoblock if at all possible

How are you going to attach the barrel, by threading or making it a slip fit and Loctite or soldering in place? 5½" would be a very long threaded joint, more than is necessary in my opinion.

Personally, I like the idea of a .32 S&W Long rifle.

I can calculate thin wall hoop stress or the more stringent thick wall hoop stress, make reasonable assumptions for the yield stress of the steel, reasonable assumptions for the peak chamber pressure, and .... never get plastic deformation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cylinder_stress

I have tried to blow up a lot of guns. They are much harder to blow up than I would calculate. It seems a 0.001 second peak pulse is not long enough for the steel ratings to be real.

Example:
if I said there was 100 ksi steel and a 20 kpsi cartridge, with the inside of the case was 0.310" then I should be able to calculate the minimum chamber wall thickness.
S = P [inside diameter]/2[wall thickness]
Solving for wall thickness
wall thickness = P [inside diameter] /2 S
wall thickness = P [inside diameter]2 [steel stress]
wall thickness = 20,000 psi [.310"]/2 [100,000 psi]
wall thickness = 0.031" for the threshold of failure
