I have a 357 Herrett barrel that I do not shoot much since someone chose to Loctite on the saddle peep sight.
I want to start shooting it s need to soften the loctite to get it off.

I have warmed it up with a hair dryer for a long time , or a Heat gun for a much shorter time.
Both methods worked, but the heat gun, much better.

What I have done in the past is to use a soldering gun with a small bit of solder on the tip. Set this on the head of the screw and heat the screw. This gives a nice localized heat and little chance of burning the finish. It dosnt take but a min or so. A wood burner also works.

Temp to break down also depends on whether its blue red green or purple

400 F degrees will make it turn loose. I suspect 200 degrees will weaken it enough to let the screws back out.

I use it all the time on chainsaws , not too mush of a problem. More of a gummy them too tight.

I clothes iron will make enough heat to break it down. I have read that soaking in acetone will soften it as well, never tried the acetone

Must be nice to work on itty bitty things!?, at work we routinely heat the head of the bolt RED with the cutting torch until the LocTite FLAMES out the other end and then it still requires a 3/4" impact wrench to unscrew it!

I have used the solder gun method with good results too.

For screws I take a copper or brass rod the size of the screw head, heat the end red hot and hold on the screw.

It's 350 degrees.

I have read that it takes 450 to get the red loctite to break loose but it takes a lot more heat if you install the wrong liner in a barrel. The barrel was turning blue form the heat before the liner would move, about 700-750. On a small part like a sight a soldering iron should work good. A propane torch would work also. The barrel can stand a lot more than the temp it takes to get a small part to move.
