a really neat combo tool for tightening/loosening the cock jaws on yer flinter, and the "T" handle has both blunted and pointed ends that work great for tapping a gun flint edge to sharpen it. it's blade is fine enuf for those really narrow slot jaws screws. bargain priced at $15/shipped. you need one of these nifty tools! no affiliation with the manufacturer, just giving a review of a worthy product for yer consideration.

I really like the concept, but my experience with these has been that the screwdriver blade is too soft to allow you to apply much in the way of torque. I find myself going back to a properly fitted modern screwdriver for securing flints in the cock jaws.

When going this route, consider having a plan to heat treat the blade.

you are very correct about the issues with untempered iron screwdrivers ....

NOT so with this tool, it's been well tempered by kyle, i've already used it to BEAR down on the cock screws of 3 long guns - no disappointments at all.

lot of nice stuff on that site but MAN, is he proud of it! I buy stuff to use not to put in a shrine or museum. never did find that tool listed anywhere though.

for my harpers- ferry I keep a combination tool for a trapdoor in the patch box. the big screw driver end fits the cock. the small one fits all the rest. and it has a notch to remove the main spring. it is dated 1879.

another good screwdriver is the tool for a browning machine gun. it is hardened and ground right for gun screws.

lotta pricey ART, that's fer sure - not something i'd wanna take afield. but the simple forgings he does are simple, effective tools and for cheap.

I have one of his turnscrews. I can insert a stick in the middle of it to really crank down on the cock screw. Plus I've been known to hurt myself with sharp pointy things...

i've got a pair of his turn screws and a "C" striker - really good stuff for cheap and only $3 shipping.
